This corner of my website is dedicated to chats with successful authors. We’ll find out what inspires them to tell tales, how they first managed to be successfully published – or self- published, and what the real life of a winning author feels like.
We’re kicking off with one of the Queens of Crime Fiction, Val McDermid. Val used to live in the same tiny seaside village as me and I would often find myself wandering towards her on our huge empty beach, during my daily walks, knowing for sure that she had murder and mayhem on her mind and also, that there wasn’t another single soul in sight.
Still, I lived to tell the tale and also create some murderous stories of my own that are now published, along that very same beach. In addition, I managed to pin Val down one day and interview her about her writing life. It was a fascinating conversation, published on a former blog site of mine, hence the unusual logo you will see on the video footage. I long ago killed poor Virtual Granny off, but Val McDermid’s insights into how she first got into the novel writing business are still just as interesting today, especially for new authors who want to write a book and get it published.
