I’m not quite sure what I expected on becoming a published crime thriller author. Maybe I imagined lolling around signing books with a quilled pen whilst quaffing champagne. Scribbling words at moments of inspiration…oh, and eating designer chocolates whilst I’m doing all of that. As I’m making up my own fantasy, I need to shove in some posh chocolates.
Well, I certainly do chuck down my weight in chocolate whilst I’m coming up with killer story ideas and okay, the odd glass of fizz too….and I DO have a quilled pen. Hey, maybe my dreams DID come true!
Ha. Indeed they did and that is why it has taken me so long to start this regular blog on my website. Yes, I promise that it will be regular going forward.
So what have I been doing when I haven’t been blogging? Well, I’ve written and published five crime thriller novels and had a short story included in a wonderful charity anthology to benefit Great Ormond Street Hospital. That involved a lot of work juggling edits and organising book launches. I also chat with readers on my Facebook, X, Threads, Instagram, and TikTok spots, as well as radio and a bit of telly, and have been involved in the creation of video trailers for my books. Phew!
Oh, and I’ve appeared at quite a few book festivals this year. I am thrilled to be at Newcastle Noir next month. It will be a very special moment for me, as a leaflet I picked up by chance at my local library, promoting Newcastle Noir 2020 and a writing competition, The Lindisfarne Prize for Debut Crime Fiction. I entered the competition in May and was lucky enough to be offered a three-book deal that October, so I will be turning up at the very spot where this whole writing malarkey began. The latest in my Billie Wilde series of crime thrillers, Backstabber, was published in the summer this year. Take a look at the trailer here.
